Michael began his legal career as a deputy prosecutor where he tried many cases to verdict on behalf of the State of Washington involving serious felony offenses that received close media attention in the local community.
In 2007, Michael transitioned his legal practice from criminal to civil and has successfully applied his extensive litigation experience in representing his clients through trial. Whether in the context of an insurance matter, employment, commercial or other legal areas, the ability and willingness to take a case to court and succeed at trial has allowed Michael to work effectively for his clients.
Michael shares George’s vision to provide an exceptional choice in the legal market. In 2012, he joined George, a former law school classmate and long-time colleague, in forming what would become Mix Sanders Thompson, PLLC. Michael represents individuals and business clients in civil litigation covering a wide range of areas, including insurance, timber trespass, contract disputes, and commercial law. He also advises corporate clients on employment issues and best practices.
Michael received his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 2002 and his B.A. in Political Science from Washington State University, cum laude, in 1999.
His passion for service continues outside the practice of law and into his community. He served on the Board of Directors for the Emergency Food Network of Tacoma and Pierce County from January 2011-December 2014. He also served on the Board of Directors for Ballet Northwest, Washington’s oldest ballet company, from 2010-2022. Michael has served as well on a Citizens Advisory Council to the Board of Directors for Tacoma Metro Parks, and has volunteered periodically for the annual YMCA Youth and Government Mock Trial Competition.
