John Eklof joined Mix Sanders Thompson in 2024 as an Associate Attorney. Before coming to the firm, John was a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for King County. Cutting his teeth in the prosecutor’s office has given John a tremendous amount of courtroom experience. 

John has successfully conducted jury trials, argued motions, and appeared weekly in court on behalf of the State. 

John attended the University of Washington where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in American Ethnic Studies and a Master’s Degree in Multicultural Education. He also attended Seattle University’s School of Law, where he graduated cum laude. While in law school, John was an Associate Editor for the Seattle Journal of Technology, Environmental, & Innovation Law, served on the Lawyer Magazine Editorial Board, and was awarded CALI Awards in Comprehensive Pretrial Advocacy and Trial Advocacy. 

Prior to becoming an attorney, John had a decade long career in diversity, equity, and inclusion in both the fields of education and local government. He has served in multiple senior leadership roles. 

Additionally, John is a professional public speaker with sixteen years of experience. He has delivered keynote speeches, facilitated workshops, and performed spoken word poetry all throughout the west coast. 

In his free time, John enjoys spending time with his wife, playing with his kids, and reading everything from history to literature.
